The Ottoman XV Army Corps was formed in 1915. During WW1 the XV Corps participated initially in the defense of Gallipoli (1915) while later on it was deployed to the Eastern Front and fought against the Russian Army (Brusilov's Offensive, Galicia).
During the operations on the Eastern Front, the XV Corps sustained overall losses of around 25,000 men and inflicted well over 72,000 casualties on the opposing Russian forces. In early 1917 the XV Coprs was redeployed to Palestine and later (1918) to Syria, Anatolia and Caucasus.
German General Erich von Falkenhayn claimed in his memoirs, regarding the performance of the XV Corps on the Eastern Front, that the Turks were "an uncommonly valuable asset to the Southern Army".
